For Terminal Animals
At The Next Kahu, we specialize in placing terminally ill animals into loving homes where they can spend their final chapter with gentleness, dignity, and care.
We’re not a rescue or a shelter: we’re a grief-informed rehoming service that works closely with community members across Florida to match these animals with kind-hearted humans who understand what it means to offer comfort at the end of life.
How We Work With You:
If you're a vet, technician, shelter staffer, or rescue volunteer, you're often the first to know when an animal has received a terminal diagnosis. You also know how heartbreaking it is to see these animals overlooked for adoption simply because they won’t have long.
That’s where we come in.
We take on the matching process: you don’t have to handle applications, screening, or outreach.
We prioritize comfort and kindness: homes are vetted to ensure stability, peace, and love.
We move quickly: our goal is to reduce stress and avoid long stays or medical boarding.
We provide end-of-life support: we’ll work with the adopting Kahus to ensure they know what to expect and have access to additional local resources.
And coming soon: we hope to forge strong partnerships with mobile vets to provide our adopting Kahus sponsored home euthanasia when the time is right.
What We Need From You:
If you're working with or aware of a terminally ill animal who is still enjoying good days and would benefit from a peaceful home environment:

We’ll coordinate with you on next steps.
Even when time is short, every animal deserves to be cherished. Our network of adopters understands the bittersweet beauty of hospice adoption. With your help, we can give terminal animals not just shelter, but a true home in their final days, under the love of a Kahu.
